Trimix is a type of antibiotic medication that works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim contains the active ingredient sulfonamide and trimethoprim. It’s also known as “SMZ-TMP,” although it can be more potent. Bactrim DS is highly effective against a wide range of bacterial infections, including pneumonia, ear infections, urinary tract infections, gonorrhea, eye infections, skin infections, pneumonia, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), urinary tract infections, and other bacterial infections. It should be used alongside or in addition to penicillin or erythromycin, depending on your medical history and current health conditions.
Trimethoprim is also known as “SMZ,” although it can also be used as a combination medication. Bactrim DS is effective against both aerobic and anaerobic bacteria and certain parasites, making it a good choice for treating a variety of infections.
How to Use:
Bactrim DS + Trimethoprim:Take Bactrim DS with a full glass of water. Swallow the pill whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medication. Take Bactrim DS at least 1 hour before or 4 hours after a meal. Do not chew, crush, or open the medicine. Do not use Bactrim DS if you are allergic to sulfamethoxazole or trimethoprim. Some people may also be allergic to sulfamethoxazole or trimethoprim. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you notice jaundice or skin rash. Avoid exposure to sunlight or ultraviolet light (e.g., tanning lamps).

The medication may be absorbed through the skin and into the food or water supply, although it should not be broken or crushed. Avoid taking the medication with meals that contain fat, since it may interfere with the medication's absorption. Taking Bactrim DS + Trimethoprim with meals that do not contain fat may interfere with its absorption. The medication should not be broken, crushed, or mixed with alcohol. Avoid sharing the medication with others. Avoid smoking; and avoid excessive alcohol consumption.
Bactrim DS + Trimethoprim + Amoxicillin should not be used in combination with penicillin. Amoxicillin and Bactrim DS should be used together only if the potential benefits outweigh the risks in your doctor's instructions for use. Use Bactrim DS + Trimethoprim with caution in patients with liver disease or kidney disease. Contact your doctor or pharmacist for more information.
